During his Monday press conference, Mike Shanahan discussed the poor conditions playing at FedEx Field and defended his decision to leave quarterback Robert Griffin III in the game, despite the rookie's lingering knee injury.

Conditions at FedEx Field during the Seattle Seahawks’ 24-14 Wild Card victory over the Washington Redskins were poor, and they may have played a part in Robert Griffin III’s knee injury.

Griffin re-aggravated a sprained LCL in his right knee early during the Redskins' 24-14 loss at the hands of the Seahawks on Sunday. Despite being severely limited by the injury, Griffin was allowed to stay in the game. He left for good after twisting his knee late while trying to fall on a bad snap.
Monday, Shanahan told the media that he wasn’t alone in making the decision, and he believed it was the correct call to leave Griffin in the game:
“If I didn’t think it was right, he wouldn’t have been in there,” Shanahan said.
After an MRI, the Redskins announced that the extent of Griffin’s knee injury is unknown. Shanahan said the quarterback will fly Tuesday to see Dr. James Andrews for a second opinion.
On the conditions at FedEx Field, about which Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll complained, Shanahan admitted the playing surface was less than ideal:
"It wasn't a perfect field, we all know that," Shanahan said. "I thought the field was OK, because I didn't see guys slipping. You would like to have the perfect field, yes."
Shanahan may not have seen any players slipping, but Griffin and Seahawks defensive end Chris Clemons both suffered knee injuries.
In addition to discussing Griffin and FedEx Field Monday, Shanahan confirmed that director of pro personnel Morocco Brown did not interview for the Arizona Cardinals' vacant general manager position.
