After winning the first PGA Tour event of the year at the weather-shortened Hyundai Tournament of Champions, Dustin Johnson is the favorite to win the Sony Open in Hawaii, according to Bovada. The Sony Open is the first full-field PGA Tour event of the year, as the Hyundai Tournament of Champions is reserved for winners from the past season.

Johnson, 28, hadn’t won a tournament since June 2011, but he is still receiving 9/1 odds to make it back-to-back weekends with a victory. Just behind him Keegan Bradley, Matt Kuchar and Webb Simpson are tied with the second-best odds at 16/1.

None of the three have earned a victory at the Sony Open before, though, and last year’s winner, Johnson Wagner, is a distant 50/1 to defend his title as tournament champion. Other past Sony Open champions include Zach Johnson, K.J. Choi, Vijay Singh and Ryan Palmer, all of whom have received better odds than Wagner to earn a second victory in the tournament.

Tiger Woods is not expected to begin his 2013 season until the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship beginning on Jan. 17. The Sony Open in Hawaii is scheduled to start on Thursday at Waialae Country Club in Honolulu.
