Early injuries in last weekend’s A-League games left more than a few questions about who would be fit for week 3 and how long the injured would be absent. Some of those answers come today in the league’s injury report: Alessandro Del Piero is available for Sydney FC for the first Sydney Derby of 2013/14, Harry Kewell is out with whiplash and Besart Berisha will miss the next two games with his hamstring injury. Josh Risdon is out an estimated eight weeks with the knee injury he suffered in the first half last weekend while Daniel Bowles will miss up to seven weeks with an ankle injury. Sydney FC also let Pascal Bosschaart go during the week after he failed to recover from multiple achillles injuries.

Pretty heavy attrition from the first two weeks of the season, but there are some returns that are noteworthy, as well. Michael Mifsud will be in the squad for Melbourne Heart after missing the first two rounds on international duty with Malta. Louis Fenton returns to Wellington Phoenix from his late pre-season shoulder injury while the Phoenix have also signed midfielder Jason Hicks during the week. Meanwhile, Nigel Boogaard and Isaias return from suspension for Adelaide United. Pablo Contreras, on the other hand, will serve his one-game suspension this week and will miss Friday night’s big Melbourne Victory-Brisbane Roar send off for Ange Postecoglou. Neither will William Gallas, announced but not yet unveiled at Perth Glory, be a part of any A-League games yet.
