NASCAR at Kansas 2013 Weather forecast: Strong storms Friday night

Big changes in the weather are coming this weekend to Kansas Speedway. Strong to severe storms are possible tonight with much colder air for the weekend

Strong cold front will swing through eastern Kansas late this afternoon and evening sparking strong to potentially severe thunderstorms. Most of the on track activity at Kansas Speedway should be mostly dry but there is a small chance a shower or storm ahead of the cold front could form and cause problems before this evening.

Tonight could be rough for fans and teams camping at the track. Big change in air mass will occur as the cold front works across the region. Storms with possible hail, strong damaging winds and even tornadoes are possible late this afternoon and evening. It will be important for everyone out at Kansas Speedway to monitor local weather and use the weather radio on your scanner. The frequency around Kansas Speedway for All-Hazards radio is 162.55 MHz.

One this system passes, it will be much cooler and breezy for Saturday. There could be a few lingering showers and storms in the morning but should be done before Sprint Cup practice Saturday morning. Highs in the afternoon will only reach the low to mid 60s. Winds will be between 10 and 20 mph.

Sunday for the Sprint Cup race will remain cool but mostly sunny. Highs in the afternoon will once again be in the low to mid 60s.
