Sydney FC’s young forward Corey Gameiro will miss the first six weeks of the season after dislocating his right knee while filming a commercial for FOX Sports, according to the Sydney Morning Herald. The 20-year-old slipped while wearing metal spikes and suffered the injury just a week before the Sky Blues host Newcastle Jets to open the 2013/14 season at the Allianz Stadium.
Sydney FC lose Corey Gameiro for six weeks
The young forward injured his knee in a video shoot accident while filming a commercial for FOX Sports.

Gameiro has featured prominently in Sydney’s pre-season, after signing with the club in late June. He is most likely to be immediately replaced by Joel Chianese, who had a nice pre-season himself, scoring several times and playing regularly, especially as Alessandro Del Piero played in so few games outside of Italy. The 23-year-old could start alongside Del Piero and Richard Garcia, with Panamanian international Yairo Yau also missing the club’s first two games due to World Cup qualifying.
The SMH is also reporting that Pascal Bosschaart, who has been recovering from a long-term right achilles injury, will miss out on the season opener due to a slight injury in his left leg. Bosschaart originally tore his achilles in March 2012 and has had two surgeries, while playing six games in between last season.
