New York City Marathon 2013: Events, times and schedule for the weekend

The 2013 New York City Marathon takes place this Sunday, but you may want to check out the full schedule of festivities beginning this Friday.

The schedule for the 2013 New York City Marathon is set. Events for the race began Thursday, but things kick into high gear beginning Friday with events for fans to celebrate one of the biggest races in the world. The marathon itself will take place Sunday, beginning in the morning and proceeding throughout the day. The 26.2-mile route will go through all five of New York City’s boroughs, beginning in Staten Island and finishing in Central Park in Manhattan.

Friday, Nov. 1

Marathon in a Motorcoach, 9 a.m.-Noon

Tour the marathon course in a bus! Tickets appear to be sold out, unfortunately.

ING New York City Marathon Health and Fitness Expo, 10 a.m.-8 p.m.

Admission is free to the event at the Jacob Javits Convention Center on 38th St. and 11th Ave. Attendees can visit vendors who will be handing out souvenirs, free samples, fitness advice, etc. Information here.

Marathon Lounge Presented by Tata Consultancy Services, 10 a.m.-9 p.m.

Fans can take part in special activities and programs to learn more about the history of the marathon. On race day, fans will be able to watch on-screen live coverage of the event. Admission is free and open to the general public.

Marathon Opening Ceremony Presented by United Airlines, 5:30 p.m.-6:30 p.m.

The official kickoff for the 2013 New York City Marathon will take place in Central Park West and 67th St. Doors open at 4 p.m., with grandstand seating open on a first come, first serve basis.

Saturday, Nov. 2

Marathon in a Motorcoach, 9 a.m.-Noon

NYRR Dash to the Finish Line, 8:30 a.m.

Open to anyone who wants to run, the 5-kilometer “dash” will start at the United Nations building and end at the official finish line for the marathon in Central Park.

ING New York City Marathon Health and Fitness Expo, 10 a.m.-8 p.m.

Marathon Lounge Presented by Tata Consultancy Services, 10 a.m.-9 p.m.

Marathon Eve Dinner, 4 p.m.-8 p.m.

Fans can buy tickets to the pre-race dinner, and sample from a menu that pasta primavera, lasagna and lemon-thyme chicken.

Sunday, Nov. 3

2013 New York City Marathon, All Day

Runners could be racing until late. Racing begins with the Wheelchair Division at 8:30 a.m. You can check out estimated start times here.

Marathon Lounge Presented by Tata Consultancy Services, 9 a.m.-7 p.m.

A Night of Champions to Benefit NYRR Youth Programs, 6 p.m.-9 p.m. (VIP Reception 6p.m.-7 p.m.)

Fans willing to throw down the hefty ticket price can celebrate the end of the marathon with a night of eating, drinking and music with winners from the weekend.
