Breeders’ Cup 2013 results: Goldencents, Chriselliam impress
It was a busy first day at the Breeders’ Cup with several horses running very well.

The day started with the Breeders’ Cup Marathon. The odds for the field were bunched prior to the start, with no horse having worse than 13/1 odds. The race turned out to be close, with London Bridge making a move down the stretch to win.
The Juvenile Turf was up next and it began with a very fast start. Pre-race favorite Bobby’s Kitten got off to a blistering start to take the lead. Giovanni Boldini challenged Bobby’s Kitten, and the two appeared on the way to a 1-2 finish before Outstrip came changing late to pull off the win.
There wasn’t much drama in the Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile, with Goldencents jumping into the lead out of the starting gate and racing all the way to the win. The 3-year-old colt has run well on the Santa Anita main track before, winning the Santa Anita Derby earlier in the year.
Chriselliam didn’t win gate to wire like Goldencents, but the 2-year-old filly was equally impressive in winning the Juvenile Fillies Turf. Chriselliam remained just off the lead early on, before making a move over the final quarter mile and blowing away the rest of the field.
Day 1 of the 2013 Breeders’ Cup concluded with Beholder winning the Distaff. Jockey Gary Stevens held Beholder back early on before taking control of the race into the final turn and pulling away for the win. Royal Delta, the two-time defending Distaff champion, struggled to keep pace early on and finished fourth.
