Graham Arnold leaving Central Coast for Asia

Central Coast Mariners’ manager is departing with Gosford to join an Asian club just five weeks into the A-League season.

Big news emerged today from Gosford as Central Coast Mariners manager Graham Arnold will travel to Asia to secure a new coaching opportunity. According to a club press release, Arnold may have coached his final A-League game already as he departs for what is an unsigned but apparently all-but-done deal with an as yet unnamed Asian club.

Mariners general manager Peter Turnbull explained in the release:

"The success of our club over the past three seasons under Graham Arnold and his staff always meant Graham would receive interest from rival Hyundai A-League and foreign clubs."

"As such, we have been planning for the past 18 months for Phil (Moss) to take on the role of head coach of the club upon Graham's departure. Of course, Graham has been helping prepare Phil for the position."

"We will know for certain by no later than Sunday whether or not Graham has finalised a deal in Asia, and will notify our members, fans and media of any updates as soon as possible."

The club has stated it will not go on the record any further until such time that Arnold completes a move or his return to Gosford is confirmed. In the meantime, Phil Moss will run the championship holders who are currently fifth on the ladder but have lost just once in 2013/14. Arnold was passed over for the Socceroos job when Ange Postecoglou was hired away from Melbourne Victory several weeks ago. With leagues like the Chinese Super League now complete for 2013, Arnold could join a club for the entirety of its pre-season.
