Phil Moss is the new Central Coast Mariners manager as of Thursday with Graham Arnold departing for Vegalta Sendai of the J-League. With a week off, due to the rescheduling of the Mariners’ match against Wellington Phoenix, Moss will have a full week in charge before his managerial debut at the nib Stadium in Perth next weekend. The 48-year-old, who has been an assistant under Arnold at Central Coast since 2010, becomes just the third manager in the nine-year history of the club.

The assistant under Graham Arnold has been promoted and will remain in charge in Gosford through 2015/16.
According to a club press release, Moss will remain in the managerial position through the end of the 2015/16 season. Though the Mariners have won just once through the first five games of this A-League season, Moss inherits the championship-winning team he helped develop. With his background at the club and adherence to Arnold’s system and style, it makes perfect sense for the Mariners to reward Moss with the job and give him the resources and backing to continue the strong tradition the club has in domestic and Asian competitions.
Said Moss in the club’s release:
"My main motivation in wanting to take this opportunity is the playing group. The culture we have in the dressing room is second to none, and I feel that together we can take it to another level.
"Arnie is big on turning up to work every day with a smile on his face, and with the playing group and staff we have that is a very easy thing to do. I have every confidence in the group and know that the motivation and hunger to succeed inside the dressing room is as strong as ever."
Though Moss had previously held the title of Academy Technical Director in addition to assistant coach, he will give up the former title and a new academy boss will be hired in the next few weeks. Additionally, Moss will be given the freedom to hire his own assistant coach.
