Beanpot 2013: BC in command after wild second period, lead Northeastern 4-1

Boston College leads Northeastern 4-1 after two periods in the 61st Annual Beanpot Tournament.

BOSTON -- After a scoreless first period, Boston College and Northeastern brought out the offense in the middle stanza, but the Eagles found the back of the net four times for a commanding 4-1 lead - well on their way to a fourth straight title in the Beanpot Tournament at TD Garden.

During a carryover 4-on-4 to start the second period, the Huskies set up in the offensive zone with a great sequence on BC senior stopper Parker Milner. Senior Garrett Vermeersch took a solid pass in front from freshman Kevin Roy, but just missed his fourth goal of the season less than 90 seconds in.

Just about four minutes in, the Eagles missed the golden chance of the contest as junior defender Isaac MacLeod could not convert on an off-angle shot as it bounced off the top corner of the net, despite beating NU’s Chris Rawlings.

The Eagles broke the ice with two goals in just 75 seconds to put themselves up by a comfortable 2-0 count. At 10:58, junior Bill Arnold took the final pass from classmate Kevin Hayes on a beautiful give-and-go sequence, finding the back of the net on the one-timer for his 11th goal of the campaign.

Sophomore Johnny Gaudreau got back on the scoresheet for the first time since a Feb. 1 win over Vermont, poking the puck past Rawlings on the post.

The Huskies made things interesting as freshman Kevin Roy picked the top corner on Parker Milner for his fourth goal of the tournament with 4:56 left.

BC closed with two more goals in the final 1:25 of the stanza to take the three-goal cushion, coming from junior Patrick Brown and senior Steven Whitney with 0.4 seconds remaining.
