So I’m finally watching the first episode of The Next Knuckler, and the action’s in Vero Beach Sports Village ... formerly known as the legendary Dodgertown, spring-training home of the Brooklyn and Los Angeles Dodgers from 1948 through 2008, after which the Dodgers eschewed tradition and moved to the far western reaches of Phoenix, Arizona.
Florida’s still the home of Little Dodgers
Anyway, I was looking up Dodgertown and discovered something I’d never known ... there is still a Dodgertown Elementary School (“Home of the Little Dodgers”), replete with all sorts of wonderful baseball images. I know it doesn’t make a lick of sense for Dodgertown Elementary School to keep its name, because the children will grow up with absolutely no connection to the tradition-eschewing, geographically remote Los Angeles Dodgers.
But consider this item one man’s vote for tradition, smack in the face of all logic.
