The New York Jets cleared a nice chunk of salary cap space Tuesday, as the team released Calvin Pace, Eric Smith and Jason Smith, and waved Josh Baker, according to Brian Costello of the New York Post. The moves freed up roughly $26 million in cap space for the Jets.

The New York Jets made four significant roster moves Tuesday.

Pace, a linebacker, and Eric Smith, a cornerback, provided significant contributions to the Jets in 2012. Pace finished the season with 55 tackles, three tackles for loss, three sacks and one fumble recovery. Eric Smith had 16 tackles, four pass breakups and one interception. Pace just completed his fifth year in New York, while Eric Smith has spent his entire seven-year career with the Jets.
Jason Smith, an offensive tackle, was in his first season in New York last season. He didn’t make a start, but he played in all 16 regular-season games. Baker, who was slotted to spend time at tight end and fullback in 2012, hurt his knee in August and was placed on injured reserve. An undrafted signee in 2011, he spent the last two seasons with the Jets.
