Augsburg vs. Hoffenheim: Final score 2-1, Mölders secures massive three points

Augsburg jumped out of the direct relegation spots on Saturday with a big 2-1 victory over Hoffenheim.

Augsburg picked up a massive three points in their drive to remain in the Bundesliga with a 2-1 victory over fellow relegation candidate Hoffenheim.

The first half was very hesitant with neither side wanting to make a mistake. The first real chance of the match came on a failed clearance by Augsburg's Mohamed Amsif. His clearance hit the head of Eren Derdiyok, and his header was just wide of the goal.

The home side broke the deadlock moments before the halftime whistle. Dong-Won Ji headed Matthias Ostrzolek’s cross past Amsif for the 1-0 lead. The goal is the South Korean’s first since joining the Bavarian side on loan from Sunderland in the winter transfer window.

Augsburg continued to have the better of the opportunities in the second half, and they finally doubled their lead in the 79th minute through Sasha Mölders. Koo Ja-Cheol played Mölders in with a through-ball, and the forward ripped his shot past Amsif for the 2-0 lead.

Hoffenheim pulled one back in stoppage time when Igor De Camargo finished a past from Joselu, but it was too little, too late.

The three points take Augsburg into 16th place, two points ahead of Hoffenheim. While Augsburg will prefer the relegation playoff place to a direct relegation place, they’re now only nine points back of Wolfsburg.
