On the day when Syracuse legend Carmelo Anthony had his jersey number retired, the Orange were unable to overcome Otto Porter’s 33 points, with the Hoyas prevailing 57-46. The 6’8 sophomore hit 12-of-19 from the field, including 5-of-10 from downtown to highlight a career day. This was the last time that Syracuse would host Georgetown as members of the Big East, as the Orange are moving to the ACC at the conclusion of this season.

The win for the Hoyas also snapped Syracuse's 38-game winning streak at the Carrier Dome, which had been the longest in the nation entering Saturday. The backcourt just never got going the Orange, with Brandon Triche and Michael Carter-Williams combining for 17 points on 6-of-19 shooting. Triche's 1-of-7 performance from behind the arc was atypical for the senior, who normally averages over 30 percent from that distance.
Neither team shot well in the first half, with the Hoyas shooting just 23 percent while the Orange shot 31 percent. The teams were a combined 5-of-28 from behind the arc and weren’t much better from in close.
With the win, Georgetown takes sole possession of first place in the Big East, with Marquette having a chance to pull even in a game late Saturday. Syracuse drops to 10-4 and will at best be tied with Marquette for second in the conference.
