It’s probably no great secret that you can jump-start attendance by three different mechanisms:

1. Open a new ballpark.
2. Win a lot of baseball games.
3. Acquire some big names.
The Blue Jays haven’t done No. 1 in a long time, and they haven’t done No. 2 yet. But they went all out with No. 3 this winter, and it’ll be real interesting to see what happens to their attendance this spring. Last season the Jays just cleared 2 million paying customers, ranking eighth in the league. But if I lived in Ontario and saw this, I’d probably be checking my calendar for free dates ...
