The Washington Capitals have signed goaltender Braden Holtby to a two-year contract extension,the team announced on Monday.

The Capitals have given the 2008 draft pick a two-year extension with the goaltender set to have been a RFA this summer.

Holtby was in the final year of his entry-level contract and will now earn $1.6 million for the 2013-2014 season and then $2 million in 2014-2015. Chosen in the fourth round of the 2008 draft, Holtby made his NHL debut in 2010, splitting time between the NHL and NHL for parts of the last few seasons.
With Michael Neuvirth unable to grab hold of the starting goaltender job, Capitals coach Adam Oates has turned exclusively to Holtby the past three weeks. The young netminder has started in seven straight games for Washington and nine of the past ten, and has a 5-4-0 record over that span.
On the season, Holtby has a 3.37 goals-against average and .896 save percentage; for his career, Holtby has collected a 2.51 GAA and .916 save percentage in 32 games overall.
