Raiders want to restructure Carson Palmer’s contract, according to report

The Oakland Raiders are trying to bring quarterback Carson Palmer back in 2013 at a reduced price.

The Oakland Raiders are trying to restructure quarterback Carson Palmer's contract, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. Oakland hopes to pay Palmer a salary much lower than the $13 million he is set to earn next season.

If Schefter's comparison to Michael Vick is correct, Palmer will face a steep pay cut in 2013. Vick was going to cost the Eagles $15.5 million dollars next season, but the team re-worked his deal and will now pay its quarterback in the neighborhood of $10 million. Vick's new contract is technically for three years, but it has a team option after next season.

Silver and Black Pride: Take a cut or get cut?

Palmer has spent the last two seasons in Oakland with mixed results. In 2011, he played in just 10 games and threw for 2,753 yards, 13 touchdowns and 16 interceptions. However, Palmer’s numbers were much better in 2012, as he passed for 4,018 yards, 22 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. That yardage total was the third-best of his nine-year career.
