Honda Classic 2013 scores: Camilo Villegas leads after strong Thursday finish

Camilo Villegas used an eagle on his final hole to grab a one-stroke lead over the field after Round 1 at the 2013 Honda Classic on Thursday. Villegas had an uneventful first 12 rounds of the day, with just one birdie and 11 pars. That all changed on the final six holes, as the Colombian went five-under with three birdies and that 18th-hole eagle.

Rickie Fowler is part of a four-way tie for second place involving Branden Grace, Graham DeLaet, and Robert Streb. Fowler finished with six birdies on the day against just one bogey on the eighth hole. Streb and Grace matched Villegas’ late success, as Streb eagled No. 18 and Grace birdied the final four holes.

Tiger Woods is six strokes behind the leader as he finished even on the day. He sits in a tie for 61st place with many, including Rory McIlroy, who bogeyed the final hole of the day.

American Dustin Johnson joins nine others tied for sixth place at 4-under. He wrapped three birdies around a bogey in the final four holes to put himself in contention heading into Round 2.

Friday action begins at 6:45 a.m. ET in Palm Beach Garden, Fla. Villegas won’t have to wait long to defend his lead, as he is among the second group to tee off at 6:55 a.m.
