SCA Promotions alleges that the bonuses no longer apply, because Armstrong has been stripped of the titles they were awarded for. The suit goes on to claim that Armstrong committed fraud when he lied under oath that he never used performance enhancing drugs, only to admit to them later. Lawyers for Armstrong are countering that the agreement was binding, and included a clause that the bonuses could not be later challenged.
Armstrong broke years of silence in January of 2013 when he sat down with Oprah Winfrey to admit the length and range of his blood doping throughout his Tour de France victories. The announcement Thursday that SCA Promotions would be pursuing a suit is the second piece of fallout in a week for the former cycling star. It was reported earlier that federal agents are investigating the Armstrong doping scandal for the possibility of obstruction, tampering, and intimidation charges.
