Rick DiPietro gives up five goals in one period in AHL game

Cosmic sports karma?

Jim McIsaac

Rick DiPietro has not had the quietest of transitions to the American Hockey League after being waived by the New York Islanders, especially since he grabbed headlines this week for joking about contemplating suicide.

That's not really a subject anyone should joke about, so perhaps what happened to him Friday night is some sort of cosmic sports karma.

DiPietro, starting for the Bridgeport Sound Tigers against the Connecticut Whale, gave up five goals on just twelve shots and was promptly pulled from the game during the first intermission. Granted, the first two goals came while his team was shorthanded. But that's when you want your goaltender to buckle down and keep his team in the game. DiPi just failed that task miserably.
