Chargers rumors: Louis Vasquez yet to receive contract offer

Louis Vasquez is set to become an unrestricted free agent Tuesday afternoon, and the San Diego Chargers still haven’t offered him a new contract.

US PRESSWIRE

The San Diego Chargers have yet to offer a contract to offensive lineman Louis Vasquez, according to Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune. If he doesn't reach a new deal with San Diego, Vasquez will become an unrestricted free at 4 p.m. ET Tuesday.

The Chargers selected Vasquez in the third round of the 2009 NFL Draft, and he’s been a rock on San Diego’s offensive line ever since. The 6’5, 325-pound guard has played 54 games during his time with the Bolts, starting every one. In 2012, he started all 16 games and was the lone bright spot on an offensive line that allowed 49 sacks, which ranked 29th in the NFL. Despite Vasquez’s best efforts, San Diego ranked 31st in the league in yards per carry, averaging just 3.6.

Should he become a free agent Tuesday afternoon, Vasquez will be the sixth-best interior lineman on the market, according to Pro Football Focus. He signed a four-year, $2.55 million deal before his rookie season and will likely command a much bigger payday in free agency.
