The Pittsburgh Steelers and linebacker Larry Foote have agreed to a multi-year contract, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. Terms of the deal have not been released.

Foote's decision to stay in Pittsburgh comes as a bit of a surprise, as the Arizona Cardinals were seen as favorites to sign the 11-year veteran in free agency. However, the Steelers made a play and locked down their linebacker just hours before he was set to hit the open market.
Incredibly, the 32-year-old had a career year in 2012. In 16 games, Foote compiled 113 tackles, four sacks, four tackles for loss, two force fumbles and two recoveries. Those numbers were a big step up from 2011, when he had 47 tackles, 1.5 sacks and one tackle for loss. Foote has never been an injury concern, playing at least 14 games in every year of his career, and with such strong numbers last season, Pittsburgh likely realized it needed to hold on to the veteran out of Michigan.
The Steelers selected Foote in the fourth round of the 2002 NFL Draft, and he has played all but one season -- 2009 with the Detroit Lions -- in Pittsburgh.
