The St. Louis Blues have activated forward Alexander Steen from injured reserve, according to an announcement from the team on Thursday afternoon.

The St. Louis Blues have activated Alexander Steen from injured reserve.
Steen had missed eight games since sustaining an upper-body injury during a practice on Feb. 27. The injury occurred while participating in the “battle” drill, which involves two goals being separated by 30 feet and the team engaging in a mini-scrimmage of sorts.
Steen is believed to have sustained the injury after falling on his shoulder after a puck battle.
It appeared as though the 29-year-old forward was nearing a return as he participated in practice on Tuesday morning. Skating on the second line with Chris Stewart and David Backes, Steen was potentially going to return on Tuesday night against the San Jose Sharks.
However, head coach Ken Hitchcock decided that he wanted to see how Steen responded to his first full day of practice before determining his status. He ultimately did not play.
While the team has yet to announce whether Steen will be in the lineup on Thursday night against the Phoenix Coyotes, his removal from IR is a strong indication that he will play.
