Toronto Maple leafs forward Joffrey Lupul will have a phone hearing with the NHL’s Department of Player Safety.

The hearing is scheduled to take place at 2 p.m. ET and is directly related to Lupul's hit on Tampa Bay Lightning defenseman Victor Hedman in Wednesday night's game. The play occurred in the opening minute of the third period with Hedman carrying the puck in the neutral zone. Lupul came across the middle of the ice and administered a high hit that appeared to make Hedman's head the principal point of contact.
Despite Hedman appearing dazed after the play, he was able to finish the contest by logging six minutes of ice time over eight shifts in the third period.
Lupul was given a two-minute minor for an illegal check to the head.
Wednesday night’s game marked Lupul’s second since returning from a broken forearm. Lupul has recorded four points (three goals, one assist) over that two-game span.
