Shell Houston Open 2013 leaderboard: Phil Mickelson well off the pace on Day 1

Lefty struggled in his first round at the Shell Houston Open.

The first groups are starting to wrap up their rounds at Redstone Golf Club, and Phil Mickelson had a start he’d want to soon forget. Mickelson shot a 3-over on his final nine holes, including a double bogey, to dig a hole for himself on the first day.

D.A. Points is the early leader after an 8-under 64. Points caught fire on his final nine holes, making six birdies and five straight at one point. He finished the day with nine birdies total and just one blemish, a bogey on No. 5.

Jason Kokrak is also in the clubhouse after a nice day. He held the early lead after a 6-under round that included eight birdies and two bogeys. Kokrak had an eventful front nine, where he made just two pars while mixing in a pair of bogeys with five birdies.

Cameron Tringale is in position to grab a share of the lead after 16 holes. He sits at 7-under and has yet to bogey on the day.

A pair of top-10 FedEx Cup points members in Brandt Snedeker and Steve Stricker began their rounds at just before 2 p.m. ET. Rory McIlroy is even after one hole. Live scoring can be found at the PGA Tour’s official website.
