Thursday pro day results: Ezekial Ansah headlines workouts

The BYU defensive end will be the highest player selected who worked out today, but he didn’t perform in any marquee events -- instead electing to sit on his combine times.

The college pro day circuit is winding down, with just a handful of small schools left hoping to showcase their top prospects in front of scouts. BYU was the biggest name holding workouts Thursday, though Central Arkansas, Coastal Carolina, East Carolina, Louisiana-Lafayette, Sam Houston State and Yale also held events.

BYU:

The most anticipated name of the day, potential Top 5 pick Ezekiel Ansah, unfortunately did not do any running. Instead, the defensive end decided to sit on his NFL Combine numbers and just run through position drills.

At the Combine, Ansah ran the 40-yard dash in 4.56 seconds, put up 21 reps on the bench press at 225 pounds, had a 34.5 inch vertical leap, a 20-yard shuttle in 4.26 seconds and a three-cone drill time of 7.11 seconds.

Also working out at BYU’s pro day was offensive tackle Braden Brown, guard Braden Hansen and linebacker Uona Kaveinga.

ECU:

Former East Carolina Pirates running back Jonathan Williams, cornerback Emmanuel Davis and kicker Michael Barbour and worked out at the school's pro day to watch the action on Thursday, but the majority of scouts were there to check out defensive lineman Michael Brooks.

Louisiana-Lafayette:

Only one player at today’s pro day is believed to have a chance of being drafted, as kicker Brett Baer is seen to be a late round possibility.

Other notable players who worked out on Thursday include defensive tackle Cordian Hagans, cornerback Melvin White, and wide receiver Javone Lawson -- who ran a 4.5 forty.

Coastal Carolina:

In the 2012 draft Josh Norman of the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers was the school's second-highest ever selection, taken by the Carolina Panthers in the fifth round. This year they don't boast a prospect with similar buzz, but scouts from the Browns, Broncos, Chiefs, Jets, Jaguars, and Saints were on hand to get first-hand looks at their class.

Offensive lineman Pat Williams finished with 23-reps in the bench press, while cornerback Dontavais Johnson was the fastest of the day, running a 4.57 in the forty yard dash.

Sam Houston State:

The player to watch was cornerback Daxton Swanson, who boasts the rare feat of intercepting a pass by Heisman winner Johnny Manziel in 2012.

Yale:

The Ivy league isn’t know for its elite draft prospects, as Yale hosted a regional pro day today allowing scouts to see not only players from the university, but also small-school prospects who don’t have opportunities of their own.

Will McHale is the top-rated player who participated today, as the Bulldogs linebacker finished his senior season with 211 career tackles.
