Boston Marathon explosion: Cell phone service reportedly shut down downtown

As the aftermath of the Boston explosion unfolds, authorities have reportedly shut down cell phone service in the downtown area.

UPDATE: The Associated Press reports that cell phone service is still operating in Boston.

The Boston Marathon explosion that killed at least two people is still being investigated at the moment. To prevent any possible remote detonations in the near future, the city has reportedly shut down cell phone service for now:

It’s unknown whether this affects the entire city, part of the city or just the immediate area surrounding the marathon.

If you’re in the Boston area and trying to get in touch with family/friends, you can call 617-635-4500 from a landline phone. For tips relating to a possible suspect, call the hotline at 800-494-TIPS.
