President Obama: Boston Marathon bombing a ‘senseless act’

President Barack Obama delivered a statement following the two explosions during the Boston Marathon, calling the explosions a “tragedy” and a “senseless act.”

The president said he assured Boston Mayor Tom Menino that the city would receive every resource necessary. While the recovery and investigation are in the early stages, the president said the victims were in the minds and hearts of the American people.

“The American people will say a prayer for Boston tonight.”

The president reiterated that while still in the investigation stage, authorities would find out who was responsible for the bombings and “hold them accountable.” He called Boston a tough and resilient town and was confident Bostonians would pull together with the support of all American citizens behind them.

The president was briefed by Homeland Security advisers roughly 10 minutes after the explosions occurred, according to ABC News. He has since been in contact with Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick and Boston Mayor Tom Menino.
