One Boston Marathon bombing suspect killed, another subject of massive manhunt

There have been major developments in the pursuit of the Boston bombing suspects.

A massive manhunt for the two suspects in the Boston Marathon bombing intensified from Thursday evening into Friday morning, leaving one suspect dead and the other still at large. Boston and its surrounding areas are advised to remain on lockdown while police conduct their search.

The two suspects, whose images were released by the FBI Thursday, have been identified as brothers, Tamerlan Tsarnaev, who was killed in a gunfight in the early hours of Friday morning, and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, who is still on the loose. Residents of the area have been advised by Gov. Deval Patrick to stay indoors and only answer to law enforcement officers as they try to track down the suspect.

Here’s a timeline of the events that transpired over the course of the night:

- At around 10 p.m., the apparent suspects robbed a 7-11 convenience store in Cambridge. Surveillance video later identified them as the suspects in the Boston Marathon bombing.

- At 10:30 p.m., a security officer at MIT was shot. The officer was later pronounced dead.

- The suspects carjack a Mercedes SUV and drive to Watertown, a suburb to the west of Cambridge. A firefight ensues, with the security forces of the Boston area converging on the residential neighborhood. Sometime after midnight, Suspect No. 2 is shot, taken into custody, and pronounced dead.

The search for Suspect No. 1 is still ongoing. He’s believed to be armed and dangerous.

More information to follow as it becomes available.
