Is Stephen Curry the best shooter in the world?

You may have heard Charles Barkley call Steph Curry “the best shooter in the world” on TNT the other night. This year Curry set the NBA record for made threes in a single season, and Tuesday night against Denver, he destroyed the Nuggets with one gorgeous, impossibly perfect, OMGSOBEAUTIFUL three-point stroke at a time. He makes it look effortless, too, which makes it even more impressive. All of which explains why we were all nodding at the “best shooter in the world” label.

It works.

Or does it?

Here’s Nik Stauskas, outside in the rain, making 70 of 76 threes.

You may remember Stauskas as the Canadian from Michigan’s tournament run. Maybe he’s the best shooter in the world. Steph Curry is impressed:

And Michigan is willing to set up a contest, so... STEPH VS. STAUSKAS LET’S DO IT.

Granted, Curry’s got more important things to focus on at the moment.

But a summer shooting showdown could be fantastic. And if all this debate ultimately leads to a scenario where other great shooters start battling to be the best shooter in the world and eventually jumpshooting becomes a separate Olympic Event that begins as a simple three-point contest but evolves into the Bird-Jordan H.O.R.S.E. commercial in real life at an outdoor Olympic Stadium in front of 100,000 people? Well, even better.
