The much-ballyhooed (I guess) tussle between TV’s Brian Kenny and Chicago announcer Ken “Hawk” Harrelson finally happened on MLB Now over at MLB Network this evening. While the two didn’t play nice, it... wasn’t exactly what we wanted.
Hawk Harrelson invents his own sabermetrics, or something, on ‘MLB Now’
Brian Kenny didn’t exactly play nice with the White Sox broadcaster, but he more or less just yelled whatever he wanted regardless.

Hawk joined Kenny and Harold Reynolds from the White Sox -- who’ve employed Harrelson forever -- dugout. The two mostly just spent the 10-minute segment yelling at each other, not really responding to each other, and still insisting they respected each other. They tried to play nice without actually wanting to. Oh, and Hawk invented his own statistical category. Here’s the full clip, perhaps you can see what I mean.
I know Kenny has the evidence on his side and has his heart in the right place, but debating an elderly brick wall like Harrelson does him no favors whatsoever. There was no chance of Hawk ever changing his stance, given that it’s so rigid and based in nothingness. He seems to -- even though he denied it -- believe that all of the movie Moneyball is what sabermetrics is based on, and just doesn’t seem interested in listening, just getting out his weird TWTW talking point. It all played out very cable news-y, and wasn’t very satisfying to watch.
