There will be no horse in the running for legendary Kentucky Derby trainer Bob Baffert. Baffert announced on Monday that he would run neither Govenor Charlie nor Code West this weekend. Both horses would have made the 20-horse field thanks to their standing on the Road to the Derby Points list. Govenor Charlie stood at 11th, Code West at 21st.

Jay Privman of Daily Racing Form filed the report that had Govenor Charlie pulling out and Code West likely on his way out. Baffert would later confirm to USA Today that both would be out.

Govenor Charlie hasn’t done any work on the track due a foot bruise back on April 11th. Code West looks like he’ll be entered instead in the Peter Pan Stakes on May 11th to prepare for the Belmont Stakes. Baffert also had a third potential horse in the running in Power Broker, but he also withdrew early from the proceedings.
Baffert has entered 23 horses in the past 17 years and captured trophies in the race with Silver Charm (1997), Real Quiet (1998) and War Emblem (2002).
