James Neal injury: Penguins star leaves after elbow to the head

Neal hasn’t returned to the game.

Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

The Penguins are already missing their captain, and now they could be without their top winger after a scary incident on Friday.

James Neal was injured after taking an elbow to the head from Michael Del Zotto in the third period. Del Zotto was trying to protect the puck and caught Neal's noggin in an unfortunate series of events. Neal hobbled off the ice and seemed incredibly groggy. Neal didn't return to the game and there hasn't been any update on his status.

The Penguins can only hope that he's just dazed. Sidney Crosby is expected to return for the playoffs, but Pittsburgh fans have to be thankful for the recent additions to the lineup considering how their players have been dropping like flies lately.
