Robert Griffin III injury: Shanahan expects Redskins QB to ‘set a record’ in return

Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan believes Robert Griffin III is on the fast track to a full recovery from his knee injury.

Washington Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan says quarterback Robert Griffin III will "set a record for coming back" from his knee injury suffered in the first round of last season's playoffs, according to Kareem Copeland of NFL.com.

Griffin tore multiple ligaments in his right knee during the Redskins' 24-14 loss to the Seattle Seahawks on Jan 6. He had surgery on Jan. 9, and his recovery has been ahead of schedule ever since. While Shanahan expects Griffin to make a quicker-than-expected return, he says it won't happen until the quarterback is completely healthy:

“It takes time,” Shanahan said. “Robert will do it the right way and we’ll find out in July exactly where he’s at. He will not come back until he’s 100 percent.”

Griffin is coming off an impressive debut campaign with Washington that won him Offensive Rookie of the Year honors. He completed 65.6 percent of his passes for 3,200 yards, 20 touchdowns and five interceptions in the regular season. Griffin also rushed for 815 yards and seven more scores.
