NFL Draft 2013: Teams ‘concerned’ by Denard Robinson’s nerve issue

Denard Robinson’s draft stock could take a major hit due to a health concern.

USA TODAY Sports

NFL teams are concerned with a nerve issue affecting Denard Robinson, according to Bob McGinn. The injury affects how Robinson can open and close his right hand.

Robinson played quarterback at Michigan, but he’s projected as a wide receiver in the NFL. If teams feel that his ability to catch passes will be hampered by the nerve issue, Robinson’s draft stock will likely plummet. He’ll have a medical recheck of the damage in the near future, which will likely determine his draft day fate.

Robinson showed his raw talent at the NFL Combine in February, running a 4.43-second 40-yard dash. He has the speed to be a legitimate deep threat on the outside, but as long as he has numbness in his hand and trouble controlling it, he won’t be of much use to any team.

Robinson originally injured his right elbow last season during a game against Illinois on Oct. 13, and he re-aggravated the injury against Nebraska on Oct. 27. At the combine, he said he was still just 60 percent recovered and that surgery was still an option.
