The 2013 Kentucky Derby kicks into high gear on Wednesday when the post positions are released, which are often considered vital to increase a horse’s chances of conquering the Churchill Downs track. The post position draw will be televised at 5 p.m. ET on NBC Sports Network.
2013 Kentucky Derby post position draw: Time and TV schedule
The positions of the horses in the 2013 Kentucky Derby will be revealed on Wednesday night on NBC Sports Network.

It’s hard to say if there’s any particular place where a horse will be in a favorable position to win the Derby. While historically a disproportionate percentage of Derby winners have emerged from the inside tracks in Gates 1 through 5, in recent years it’s been the auxiliary gates (Gates 15 through 20) that have enjoyed a great deal of success, with four of the past five winners coming from that side of the track.
This year, there has been a change in how the spots in the Kentucky Derby starting gate are determined. Instead of using horses’ graded earnings, the prep season schedule will be utilized to award points to each horse. Matt Gardner of And Down The Stretch They Come had a look at the old standings about two weeks ago, which should give you a relative idea as to the ordering of the horses.
