It’s not every day that adidas releases a brand new boot silo. The sportswear giant’s modus operandi is typically to build on their existing creations by offering drastic redesigns and new technological innovations on a yearly or bi-yearly (depending on the boot) basis. The last time that adidas introduced an all new silo? 2004 when they launched the now ubiquitous F50 series. That has all changed now with the adidas Nitrocharge.
adidas releases first new boot silo in nearly ten years, is all in on “the Engine”
adidas has designed an all new boot for that one player in every side that drives the team forward. The one player that will make a game-saving tackle at one and before becoming a crucial part in the attack at the other. The boot features a vibrant colorway and is loaded with technological innovations to help “the Engine” perform.

The sharp-looking Blue Beauty/Running White/Electricity colorway does a good job of showing you what the boot is about right from the off. As adidas puts it, the Nitrocharge is designed to “retain energy, improve lateral movement, sharpen on field reactions, deliver added sprinting power and increase protection specifically for players who are tirelessly on the move.” In short, the Nitrocharge is tailor-made to a player that adidas had dubbed “the Engine.”
"After two years of careful development, we've created a unique cleat that caters to the relentless energy of those players who are ‘The Engine' of their teams. adidas upholds a standard for developing innovative footwear based on athlete's specific needs and Nitrocharge represents a unique extension of that meticulous process," said Ernesto Bruce, director of soccer for adidas.
As with the other adidas silos (Predator, F50, 11Pro), the Nitrocharge places the focus on technological innovations to help the player get the job done. You will notice the bright Electricity band, dubbed ENERGYSLING, that arches over the front of the foot, for one. That is designed to “support lateral movements to sharpen reactions on the field.” The same goes for the zig-zagging ENERGYPULSE technology on the sole of the foot, which is “inspired by spring technology, with high-elastic material at its heart, providing added energy during the toe off phase of sprinting.” Then, there’s the Protection mesh layer and pads around the boots that protect sensitive areas like the Achilles tendon during tackles.
There will be a number of instantly-recognizable faces and names wearing the new Nitrocharge boot in action this weekend including, but not limited to Sporting Kansas City midfield Graham Zusi, Dax McCarty of Red Bull New York, Osvaldo Alonso of the Seattle Sounders, LA Galaxy's Juninho, DC United's Perry Kitchen, Barcelona's Dani Alves, Roma's Daniele De Rossi, Paris Saint Germain's Ezequiel Lavezzi, and Bayern Munich's Javi Martinez.
“Energy is so important in today’s game,” said Graham Zusi. “I’m running from box-to-box for the full 90 minutes and am constantly changing directions and sprinting. Wearing a cleat that gives me energy return throughout an entire match gives me a huge advantage.”
The Nitrocharge will drop very soon in the Blue/Electricity colorway at a $200 price point.
