NASCAR All-Star Race 2013: Top drivers race Saturday night

NASCAR’s best meet at the Charlotte Motor Speedway for a five-segment non-points race.

Jeremy Brevard-US PRESSWIRE

NASCAR takes a quick break from the Sprint Cup Series this weekend at the Charlotte Motor Speedway to run the All-Star Race on Saturday night.

A non-points event, the NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race features a $1 million prize should a driver win every one of the race’s five segments. The race (more details available here) is broken up into four 20-lap segments, separated by three optional pit stops, as well as a necessary one. The final segment is simply the race’s last 10 laps.

Only drivers with wins in previous or current Sprint Cup Series seasons, along with the winners of the last 10 races and past Sprint Cup Series champions, are qualified to race in this All-Star event. This year, that includes Marcos Ambrose, Greg Biffle, Clint Bowyer, Kurt Busch, Kyle Busch, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Carl Edwards, Jeff Gordon, Denny Hamlin, Kevin Harvick, current Sprint Cup points leader Jimmie Johnson, Kasey Kahne, Matt Kenseth, Brad Keselowski, Joey Logano, Mark Martin, Ryan Newman, David Ragan and Tony Stewart. The driver who wins either a fan vote and/or a shorter Sprint Showdown race on Saturday night will also participate in Saturday’s main event.

The All-Star Race is set for Saturday night at 7 p.m. ET, with television coverage available on SPEED. For a complete look at NASCAR’s weekend schedule, visit Speed TV.
