NASCAR Sprint Showdown 2013 qualifying results: Truex Jr. nabs Showdown pole from McMurray

In the race to get into the All-Star Race, Martin Truex Jr. gained the advantage when he won the pole for the preliminary Sprint Showdown.

It will be Martin Truex Jr. who will lead the field to the green flag for Saturday’s Sprint Showdown at Charlotte Motor Speedway, the preliminary event for the NASCAR All-Star Race.

The last driver to qualify, Truex snapped the pole away from Jamie McMurray with a lap of 193.424 mph and broke up what would have been an all Earnhardt-Ganassi Racing front row.

McMurray’s EGR teammate Juan Pablo Montoya will start third followed by Ricky Stenhouse Jr. and Casey Mears completing the top five. Jeff Burton qualified sixth and in her first All-Star Race, Danica Patrick posted the seventh-fastest time.

The top two finishers in the non-points event will advance to the All-Star Race. A third driver will gain entry via fan voting with the only condition that their car be in “raceable condition.”
