Not much has changed in the mind of Ottawa Senators captain Daniel Alfredsson. Last offseason, Alfredsson contemplated retirement by weighing the pros and cons of a time-consuming offseason workout regime versus time with his family life.

With the end of the Ottawa Senators season, comes questions about the future of Daniel Alfredsson.

The same is true this offseason.
When pressed during locker clean-out day on Monday morning, Alfredsson stated that he felt healthy enough to return for another season. However, he won’t be thinking about his future for at least another week, as he plans to take sometime with his family before considering whether to return for another season. A final decision isn’t likely to come for a few weeks.
Family will play a factor in the decision, as the father of four wants to be involved in his children’s lives. Expressing that his wife has to account for a considerable amount of work while he is away, Alfredsson could opt to stay home and help out with the day-to-day activities of household life. In addition, he will be weighing whether he is motivated enough to commit to the intensive offseason workout that will come along with preparing for the 2013-14 season.
When asked if participating in the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, would be a motivating factor, Alfredsson stated that it wouldn’t. However, he did admit that winning a Stanley Cup was the one thing he had left to prove.
If Alfredsson has played his final game, his resume will include 1,178 career regular season games, 426 goals, 682 assists and 1,108 points.
