Last summer, I wrote that ESPN should rebroadcast corporate underling TSN’s nightly SportsCentre, a hilarious, exciting sports broadcast led by the funniest anchor pairing since Olbermann and Patrick, Jay Onrait and Dan O’Toole. It was, like they heyday of SportsCenter on ESPN, as funny as any late night talk show, and treated sports with both the love and irreverence it deserved.
Fox Sports 1 hires Jay Onrait, Dan O’Toole for nightly sports show
Canadian cult heroes Jay Onrait and Dan O’Toole will be taking their act to Los Angeles for the fledgling Fox Sports 1

Well, it appears the up-and-comers at Fox Sports 1 have done one better. Toronto Sports Media leaked today that the pair of anchors have been signed away by the fledgling sports network. TSN followed up the rumors with a press release stating the following:
TSN today announced that the network’s popular sports anchor team of Jay Onrait and Dan O’Toole are heading to Los Angeles for exciting new broadcast opportunities on U.S. television.
Onrait and O’Toole will continue hosting Canada’s most-watched sports news program, SPORTSCENTRE, until late June.
Though the press release does not specifically mention Fox Sports 1, all signs appear to show that they’ll be anchoring Fox Sports Live, the nightly sportscast on FS1 that’ll debut the same day as the new network, on Aug. 17.
Onrait and O’Toole are cult figures in Canada for putting together an often hilarious sports newscast that harkens back to the days of The Big Show on ESPN. If Fox Sports 1 allows them to do their thing, this could be a really, really solid hire for the new network.
