NASCAR Dover 2013 qualifying: Drivers vie for pole position Friday

Jimmie Johnson aims for his second consecutive FedEx 400 victory at Dover International Speedway.

Jerry Markland

Qualifying for the FedEx 400 at Dover International Speedway begins Friday at approximately 3:10 p.m. ET. Each driver will run two laps, and proceedings will be broadcast by SPEED beginning at 3 p.m.

Jimmie Johnson won this race last year, and he’ll be trying to put himself in a position to go back-to-back, as well as extend his current lead in the Sprint Cup points standings. He is one of four drivers to have won at least two races this season, and he has won this event three times in his career.

Kevin Harvick, who won the Coca-Cola 600 last weekend, hopes to carry that momentum into this weekend and further solidify his place in the top 10 of the points standings. Martin Truex Jr. is also back at the site of his only Sprint Cup Series victory -- he won at Dover back in 2007.

The race is scheduled to begin Sunday at approximately 1:15 p.m. and will be televised by Fox.
