Stephanie’s Kitten closed from dead last and held on in the final strides to win the Grade 2 Churchill Distaff Turf Mile on the Kentucky Derby under card. Frontside and Channel Lady set the pace through moderate fractions but gave at the top of the stretch to strong runs by Daisy Devine and race favorite Hungry Island. Stephanie’s Kitten fanned four wide off the far turn and commenced a long, confident stretch drive to the front. Hungry Island fought hard to the inside, but Stephanie’s Kitten held on by a had at the wire.

Steaphanie’s Kitten is a four-year-old daughter of Kitten’s Joy out of a Catienus mare (Unfold the Rose), trained by Wayne Catalano and ridden by Julien Leparoux.
Due to the steady rain in Louisville,the Churchill Downs turf course was downgraded from “Good” to “Yielding” prior to the start of the Distaff Turf Mile.
