NASCAR standings 2013: Jimmie Johnson still No. 1

Changes abound in the standings following the Aaron’s 499 at Talladega, but Jimmie Johnson didn’t relinquish his hold on first place.

Jimmie Johnson and Carl Edwards remain first and second in the Sprint Cup Series point standings this week, though there was plenty of shuffling behind them following the results from the Aaron’s 499 at Talladega on Sunday. Dale Earnhardt Jr., Clint Bowyer and Brad Keselowski round out the top five in the standings.

Poor finishes over the weekend cost both Kasey Kahne and Kevin Harvick three spots in the standings; Kahne fell to sixth overall, while Harvick tumbled out of the top ten and now sits in 12th place. Kyle Busch and Greg Biffle each dropped two spots.

Aaron’s 499 winner David Ragan moved up to 26th and teammate David Gilliland is up to 29th following his runner-up finish. Aric Almirola was one of the weekend’s big winners, climbing four spots to seventh. Paul Menard and Matt Kenseth each moved up a pair of spots, to eighth and 11th.

The current top ten:

1. Jimmie Johnson (383 points)
2. Carl Edwards (342)
3. Dale Earnhardt Jr. (324)
4. Clint Bowyer (316)
5. Brad Keselowski (314)
6. Kasey Kahne (299)
7. Aric Almirola (293)
8. Paul Menard (290)
9. Kyle Busch (285)
10. Greg Biffle (280)
