The NHL announced the finalists for the 2013 Calder Memorial Trophy, which is awarded annually to the league’s top rookie, on Monday morning.

Chicago Blackhawks forward Brandon Saad, Florida Panthers forward Jonathan Huberdeau and Montreal Canadiens forward Brendan Gallagher have been recognized as the three finalists for the honor. The three players earned their nomination based upon voting by members of the Professional Hockey Writer's Association.

Gallagher was originally selected with the No. 147 overall pick in the 2010 NHL Draft by the Canadiens. The 21-year-old forward made his NHL debut in 2013 and recorded 28 points (15 goals, 13 assists) in 44 games played. Gallagher averaged 13:51 of ice time, which included an average of 2:21 on the power play (he registered three goals and an assist on the man advantage this season). He finished second among rookies in goals scored.

Huberdeau was chosen with the No. 3 overall selection in the 2011 NHL Draft by Florida. The 19-year-old played in all 48 games this season, registering 14 goals and 17 assists for 31 points. He finished second on the team in scoring, tied for second in goals and third in assists. In terms of rookie scoring, he finished with the third most goals and tied for the scoring lead.

Saad was chosen with the No. 43 overall selection in the 2011 NHL Draft by Chicago. Having made his debut during the 2011-12 season, the 20-year-old forward played in 46 games in 2013 and registered 27 points (10 goals, 17 assists).

Two notable absences from the list of finalists are Jonas Brodin of the Minnesota Wild and Nail Yakupov of the Edmonton Oilers.

Brodin played in 45 games this year and finished with an average of 23:12 of ice time per game, which included time played in all phases (averaged two minutes on the penalty kill and 1:18 on the power play).

Yakupov played in all 48 games this season and finished with the most goals (17) and points (31) among rookies.

The winner of the 2013 Calder Trophy will be announced some time during the Stanley Cup Final.
