NBA free agency: Ronny Turiaf, Timberwolves agree to 2-year deal

Minnesota filled out a frontcourt roster need while they wait for Nikola Pekovic’s contract situation to be settled.

USA TODAY Sports

Ronny Turiaf agreed to a two-year, $3.2 million deal with the Minnesota Timberwolves on Thursday, according to Jerry Zgoda of the Minnesota Star Tribune. The 30-year-old veteran big man appeared in 65 games for the Los Angeles Clippers during the 2012-2013 season, averaging 1.9 points and 2.3 rebounds per game.

Minnesota continues to wait for a decision from starting center Nikola Pekovic, but that didn't stop the team from making a minor move to grab Turiaf. The Timberwolves have offered the restricted free agent a four-year deal expected to be worth $48 million but he has yet to accept the offer.

Minnesota's frontcourt roster is thin with only rookie Gorgui Dieng and Chris Johnson to fill out Rick Adelman's rotations behind Kevin Love. Minnesota waived Greg Stiemsma to create cap space for incoming swingmen Corey Brewer and Kevin Martin, while also bringing back Chase Budinger. Stiemsma served as Minnesota's primary reserve big man last season, averaging 19.5 minutes per game behind Pekovic.

This will be Turiaf's seventh team since being drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers in the second round of the 2005 NBA Draft.
