Mark Milligan won’t go to Crystal Palace for AU$500,000

Melbourne Victory’s key midfielder will not be departing for the Premier League without a much higher bid.

Two months ago, Mark Milligan turned down an AU$2m per year deal at UAE side Baniyas to see out his Melbourne Victory contract. The Socceroos midfielder has been coveted by Crystal Palace but the club’s most recent offer for Milligan has come to just AU$500,000, according to a new report at The Age. Victory manager Ange Postecoglou denied rumors of an AU$1.5m bid and expects Milligan to spend the final two years of his contract in Melbourne.

With only a week left before the 2013/14 Premier League season begins, Palace manager Ian Holloway wanted to add Milligan to his Socceroo teammate Mile Jedinak, who was the Eagles’ captain in their 2012/13 promotion winning season in the Championship. But the offer for Milligan, who just turned 28 last week, is simply not enough to convince the Victory to consider it.

Back in June, Milligan suggested that his family was settled in Melbourne and that only ‘extreme circumstances’ would lead him to consider overseas offers. An AU$500,000 offer for a regular national team starter and top player in the A-League doesn’t seem to qualify as extreme.
