Perth Glory took full advantage of a high profile friendly, defeating Johor Darul Takzim 2-0 at the Larkin Stadium in Johor Bahru. Steven McGarry’s 35th minute penalty was enough to provide a nice win over the Malaysian Super League’s third place side. 21-year-old Ndumba Makeche added Perth’s second in the 93rd minute to seal the pre-season victory.
Perth Glory defeat Johor Darul Takzim in friendly
Steven McGarry and Ndumba Makeche scored to give Perth its first international friendly victory in four tries.

The Glory were able to rebound from a poor showing on their South Africa tour where three games against MP Black Aces, Tuks FC and SuperSport United resulted in three losses and not a single goal scored. Two weeks after returning to Australia, Perth flew to Johor Bahru, which is the southernmost city on mainland Eurasia (and just north of Singapore) to test themselves against one of Malaysia’s top clubs.
JDT chose not to debut its newly signed superstar, Pablo Aimar. While there was no official indication that this friendly would serve as his first game for the Southern Tigers, Perth players and fans hoped to see the Argentine legend on the field against the Glory.
