SummerSlam results: Rob Van Dam beats Dean Ambrose by DQ

You should continue to believe in The Shield. Rob Van Dam was about to beat Dean Ambrose clean until Roman Reigns cost him the United States Championship.

Dean Ambrose is still the United States Champion, thanks to the antics of Roman Reigns. His spear on Rob Van Dam meant the ECW legend won the match, but that Ambrose retained the title. The biggest thing to come out of this match is that Mark Henry and Big Show looked completely useless and incompetent.

Even though the point of having six belts is seemingly to have a couple that you showcase on free television, the WWE hasn’t had Ambrose defend the United States Championship in quite some time. Ambrose totally made up for this with a promo on Monday Night Raw where he said his is the belt that everyone runs from. A 20-man battle royal was set up to determine who would take on Ambrose in this match and Van Dam came out victorious.

The match was a back and forth affair with plenty of offense for both until Van Dam put down Ambrose with a kick about 10 minutes in. Van Dam went for his finisher, the 5-star frog splash, when the music hit for The Shield, leading Ambrose’s buddies Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns to stroll down the stairs as Ambrose rolled out of the ring. As teased on Smackdown earlier in the week, that led to Henry and Show coming down the ramp to defend RVD.

With the numbers even, Ambrose headed back into the ring so the match could continue. That gave way to another even back and forth, featuring some Shield distractions to throw off RVD, though none of them helped Ambrose pull anything off. Van Dam looked like he had the title won after he hit Rolling Thunder and the 5-star frog splash, but Reigns jumped in to rob RVD of the belt.

Come on, Show and Henry. YOU HAD ONE JOB.
