Adelaide United's best player in 2012/13 is moving on, according to a club press release. Dario Vidosic leaves the Reds less than 50 days before the start of the 2013/14 season, joining FC Sion of the Swiss Super League after the two clubs agreed to an undisclosed transfer fee. The 26-year-old led Adelaide with 9 goals last season. Vidosic is the second A-League player to move to Switzerland after Central Coast Mariners midfielder Oliver Bozanic joined FC Luzern in June.

Prior to his A-League return (he spent the 2006/07 season with Brisbane Roar as a 20-year-old), Vidosic spent four years in Germany at FC Nürnberg. During that time he went on loan at MSV Duisburg and Arminia Bielefeld. Yet it was back in the A-League, at Adelaide, where Vidosic really established himself as a consistent and dangerous attacker. Along with more regular playing time and a better goal scoring record, Vidosic also got more chances to play with the Socceroos, having made his debut in 2009. His signing in 2011 was as a replacement for Marcos Flores and was heralded as a fantastic capture by then manager Rini Coolen.
While Vidosic is certainly good enough to be playing regularly in Europe, the move does have undertones of the wider changes at Adelaide under new manager Josep Gombau. The Spaniard has now allowed two top players to depart, with Vidosic joining Iain Fyfe, and no doubt will be looking for more ways to open roster spots as he tries to overhaul what was actually a pretty good Adelaide team in 2012/13.

“Whilst leaving a big hole to fill, I am sure that we have players within the squad who can step up, and over the ensuing weeks will have explore other suitable options that will strengthen the squad for season nine.”
Vidosic added:
“I’ve really enjoyed my time in Adelaide. It’s a bit sad leaving at this point in time with all of the excitement around the team, but this is a great opportunity that I couldn’t knock back.”
